The National Book Foundation honors Great American Books, and is sponsoring a Nelson Algren Centennial celebration.

As part of the project, they are partnering with Seven Stories Press, Algren’s publishers, by offering free copies of the 50th anniversary edition of The Man With the Golden Arm,” published in 1999 to the first 100 librarians who contact them.

The book includes a special introduction by Studs Terkel and Algren’s Paris Review interview.

Algren twisted and bent the American idiom in new and provocative ways, and is considered to rank with the great practitioners of American naturalism.

The offer is limited to the first 100 librarians who respond by clicking : algren@nationalbook.org to give them your mailing address and pertinent information.
