Cambridge University is celebrating the coming 400th anniversary of the birth of John Milton (who was born on December 9, 1608) with a live Internet broadcasting of “Paradise Lost.”

At 9am on October 23 in Cambridge, the university’s English department and Christ’s College — where Milton studied — were scheduled to hold a marathon reading of Paradise Lost.  The 12 book epic of man’s first disobedience and the fruit of that forbidden tree was planned to be read until all 12 books and the last of the more than 10,000 lines of poetry was heard.   It was expected to take twelve hours.

Milton scholars unable to attend the event were invited to tune in to an Internet broadcast at www.christs.cam.ac.uk/milton400.   A podcast will be made available afterward.
