+ Kildonan School Receives 500K Grant for Dyslexia Work

Kildonan School has announced that the Dyson Foundation awarded the school a $500,000 grant.  Kildonan, located in Amenia New York, is a college preparatory boarding and day school for students with dyslexia. 

The grant will go to establish an endowment for financial aid to help local students from Dutchess County and the mid-Hudson Valley attend the school.

The Dyson Foundation is a private grant-making foundation in Millbrook, New York, and has been supporting the Kildonan School since 1988.

Kildonan (www.kildonan.org) approaches dyslexia in daily one-on-one tutoring, utilizing the Orton-Gillingham method, developed by American psychiatrist and neurologist Samuel Orton.  There are 140 students at Kildonan, in the 10 grades it serves.  Kildonan students have gone on to such prestigious colleges as Boston University, Columbia, Princeton, and the Rhode Island School of Design.
