April is National Poetry Month every year.

For the past five years, New Yorkers have been unfolding poems on “Poem in Your Pocket” Day, and reading them in parks, libraries, schools, workplaces and bookstores.

The Academy of American Poets thinks this would be a pleasant thing to do even if we’re not in New York on April 17th.

The idea is simple: select a poem (write a poem!) and then carry it with you.  Unfold it with family, classmates, friends or coworkers throughout the day.

Organize your own Poem in Your Pocket Day event.  Visit www.poets.org/pocket for ways to celebrate!
