NASA will send the Beatles’ song “Across the Universe” — literally.
On Monday, February 4, 2008, at precisesly 7pm EST, the song will be beamed by the agency’s Deep Space Network of antennas at the Nort Star, Polaris, which is exactly 431 light years away.
The transmission will mark three anniversaries:
the 40th of the song’s recording
the 50th of both NASA and its first satellite, Explorer I
the 45th anniversary of the Deep Space Network
The Deep Space Network carries out communications between NASA and its far-flung fleet of spacecraft.
“Send my love…,” said Paul McCartney.
