The Learning Disabilities Association of America (LDA) held its 45th annual International Conference at the Chicago Hilton, on Feb 27-Mar 1, 2008.

 Keynote address was by Reg Weaver, President of the NEA, on “Diversity and Culturally Responsive Teaching for Students With Learning Disabilities.”  Other speakers:

  • Rick Lavoie, on “The Motivation Breakthrough”
  • Dr Margo Mastropieri, research and education expert from George Mason University,  on “Maximizing Learning for Today’s Schools,” focusing on learning and memory as well as effective and inclusive strategies for learning 
  • Dr Peter Scheidt, Director of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development
  • Ann Ford, former Chairman of the NCLD
  • Dale Brown, senior manager of LD Online

Sessions covered IDEA and the justice system; adults with learning disabilites; youth and substance abuse; parenting issues; RTI (Response to Intervention); early childhood; and fostering independence in children and young adults with LD,postsecondary opportunities.

Future conferences are planned in Salt Lake City (2009), Baltimore (2010), Jacksonville FL (2011), and Chicago again in 2012.
